This laptop was dropped with the AC adapter connector plugged in. The force of the impact broke the plastic back of the DC jack and the metal conductor was sheared off. It is important to remove the battery ASAP because the pin that disappeared inside the laptop may cause a short circuit and kill the motherboard.

Missing power pin
   
 

The old power jack is removed. Removal of the old socket can be challenging as it is easy to damage nearby components. Overheating can also cause the motherboard to fail. Removing the solder from the holes on the motherboard requires special tools. The area is then cleaned to remove dirt and dust.

Old socket removed
   
  The replacement DC socket is installed. The area is then cleaned. All connections are checked for short circuits and dry joints. The connector is checked with the AC adapter and if the board powers up then the laptop is re-assembled.
